Ohope Spit Care Group boundaries

Care > Kaitiaki & Volunteer Groups > Ōhiwa Headland Sanctuary

Established in 2017. Currently, 42 volunteers do: 

Pest animal control through 26 DoC 200 stoat traps, seven rodent tracking tunnel lines and 67 rat bait stations. 

Weekly targeted rabbit Magtoxin (burrow fumigation) operations since late December 2023. 

 

Targeted pest plant control and track clearance on behalf of the shorebird volunteers. 

 

Periodic planting days over the winter planting season.
